Commencement ceremonies are held in May. Commencement The May Commencement Program and Ceremony includes those undergraduate students who completed degree requirements in the previous summer, fall and winter and those expected to complete degree requirements in the upcoming spring and summer. Magna cum laude is one of the 3 popular Latin honors given to college students as a result of their academic achievements. This honor is awarded to students who have grade point averages between magna cum laude and summa cum laude. Magna cum laude, and other Latin honors are mostly used in the United States, countries in Europe, and Southeastern Asian countries like Indonesia and the Philippines.
When determining eligibility for honors, repeated courses and grades awarded in all courses taken at all colleges and universities attended are included in computing the Grade Point Average GPA. Engineering students with outstanding scholastic records are automatically considered for the special honor of graduation With Distinction, With High Distinction, or With Highest Distinction upon the recommendation of the College faculty. Each department has additional requirements for students meeting the GPA requirement for graduation with High Distinction to be eligible for graduation with Highest Distinction.

Hours: M-F 8 a. Candidates for Baccalaureate degrees may graduate with academic honors if they complete a minimum of 45 semester hours of undergraduate credit at UT Tyler. Second Baccalaureate degree candidates are eligible for academic honors if they complete a minimum of 45 semester credit hours of resident credit in addition to the hours required for the first degree. No duplication of hours from a previous degree can be used toward the 45 hour requirement.
